Overview
The ITER project (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor), currently under construction in Cadarache, France, is the largest nuclear fusion facility in the world. Its mission is to demonstrate the scientific and technological feasibility of fusion as a large-scale and carbon-free energy source.
A crucial component of ITER is the Neutral Beam Injector (NBI) system, designed to heat plasma to the extreme temperatures necessary for fusion reactions, up to 150 million degrees Celsius.
To develop and test this advanced technology, the SPIDER facility at Consorzio RFX in Padua, Italy plays a central role in preparing the NBI systems for ITER.
